Kune Kune – A Heritage breed built to graze
KuneKune pigs are a heritage breed from New Zealand. Kunekune is Maori meaning fat and round. This breed is naturally built to graze on pasture. It was for this reason we decided to raise kunekune pigs. We wanted a true pasture pig. In addition to eating pasture we feed the pigs fresh fruit and vegetables and supplement with non gmo grain.
We have found the meat from kunekune pigs to be superior to factory raised or feeder pigs. The meat is marbled with a dark red hue. Due to the greater amount of pasture it eats the meat has more Omega 3 fats. Our Kunekune’s graze freely outside for 12 months. This slower maturation process produces a better tasting meat.
